Despite their dire circumstances, seeing the people of Tondo live in the community they’re in and work in an environment that is less than desirable, is something short of amazing. Their struggle to make ends meet and live with what they can find in their surroundings is astonishing.
What is even more surprising is that even in the midst of the chaos that surrounds them; they have still found a haven of sorts for their families. What can be observed is that usually, you see groups of people working, playing, eating and yes, even having fun together. It made us realize that no matter how difficult their situation is, as long as they are not alone, they can live through it, survive it.
Pagbabakas in Filipino means partnership. Commonly a term used in business and in gambling… yes gambling. This term connotes being with someone in an endeavor or activity. For this exhibit however, our focus will be to show how the people of Tondo have bonded together, gambling their lives everyday to survive. We want to show how working together can be a positive element even in an environment that is surrounded by hopelessness and negativity.
In other adaptations, “pagbabakas” can be considered as seeing their everyday life, the way they live and their way of survival. Our photographs will be the medium in which our audience will understand the situation in their community not as merely being unfortunate but simply showing them that you can still appreciate life even if the situation is unkind.
This photo exhibit is a partnership between Sunday Love Affair, UP Film Institute (UPFI) and TUDLA Production.

Since nagpalit ako ng wallpaper from koi fishes to denim textures, i'll also add my jeans "progress report".
Bakit progress report? - Kasi i'll document how my jeans will evolve, how will it wear, mag fade, and mag create ng "character" through my lifestyle wearing these jeans.
So....bakit nga progress report? - Kasi the progress will be documented MONTHLY without washing....yup you read it right...you cannot make a progress report kung nagkakaron ng gap through washing....basta...yun yon....diba pag naglaba tayo ng pants nawawala yung kulay nya (kumukupas)? by skipping the washing unti unting lalabas yung true fades ng jeans...fades due to wear and tear and not due to agitation using your katulong's iskoba. Without washing hindi rin madaling mag luluma yung pants nyo..but of course when it starts to smell funky e labhan nyo na...and don't wait na mag amoy tae pa yan.
To start of...
After buying my jeans...i don't wash it....though the labels say na you should wash it before wearing...i don't, wala lang....just to preserve the initial color of the jeans...whether it is pre-washed o raw.
I use my jeans like there's no tomorrow...i don't care if it cost me 1k or 9k....basta mag wear sya the way how i move naturally. I usually wear a pair of jeans 14hours a day, 3x a week....14 hours kasi I only take it off once na matutulog na ko...or pag mukhang mainit.
I use Niagara Starch Spray (available on your leading supermarkets, avoid the scented ones) on the following parts of the jeans: - lap (for whiskers) - back of the knees (for honeycombs) - end of each leg (for stacking)
Starch spray is like almirol to stiffen the specific areas....this stiffening will lock in the folds to create whiskers, honeycombs and stacks on your jeans. Whiskers are the folds at the lap part...parang whisker lang ng pussa....honeycombs are the folds formed at the back of your knees na parang tirahan ng bubuyog (honeycomb nga)...stacks are the folds formed at the bottom na malapit sa sapatos.
After using the jeans...i hang it using, syempre, a hanger outside but not in direct sunlight....para mahanginan hehe
Progress Report will come in shortly ;-)

I like to share something that I love...jeans! There's a thread on PhilMUG re anything about jeans...I can't say much on that thread ( i don't want to look epal, i don't start the thread...and some of them are real gurus when it comes to jeans), and since this is my site...dito na lang ako mag s share ;-).
Here is an image of nicely aged jeans...it's not Levi's...it's Flat Head, though it might look Levi's kasi from the back pocket stitches....
These jeans wasn't washed for 6 months....yup...6 months no wash...you might think of mabaho, tumatayong mag isa..ewwness...and mga kaartehan nyo (joke) hehehe
Jeans fits and feels better when you wear them a lot...Denim gets softer the longer you use it.....so saying na "tatayo syang mag isa won't happen....I newly wash denim feels more rough than those that are used...and abused.
If you want to personalize the wear and fades of your jeans
1. Try no to wash them for at least 3-4 months (it's humid here sa atin compared to Europe, they can do it for 6 months)....The line fades and creases will look better when you use your jeans a lot....kasi the creases/folds part will wear more than the other part, giving you higher contrast of fades
2. Don't over wash your jeans...this will just make your jeans look older...kasi the bleed (yung nakakahawa) and the fades fill look flat...making your flat dark blue jeans to flat sky blue....no lines, no honeycomb folds coz you don't stress your jeans much.
3. Don't agitate your jeans when washing...I wash my jeans on a washer for only 3mins after a 3 month use with a little detergent
4. Wear your jeans like there's no tomorrow.
yun lang hehe
pahabol sulat: those creases and honeycombs will work best with slim and skinny type jeans since regular and loose jeans don't create such markings
From Pat: http://www.quizbox.com/personality/test82.aspxYour view on yourself: You are down-to-earth and people like you because you are so straightforward. You are an efficient problem solver because you will listen to both sides of an argument before making a decision that usually appeals to both parties. (pwede) The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for: You like serious, smart and determined people. You don't judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren't necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people's eyes. (pwede, kasi im not good-looking naman) Your readiness to commit to a relationship: You are ready to commit as soon as you meet the right person. And you believe you will pretty much know as soon as you might that person. (true) The seriousness of your love: You are very serious about relationships and aren't interested in wasting time with people you don't really like. If you meet the right person, you will fall deeply and beautifully in love. (hehehe...true) Your views on education Education is less important than the real world out there, away from the classroom. Deep inside you want to start working, earning money and living on your own. (eto true talaga kahit nag w work ako sa education dati) The right job for you: You have many goals and want to achieve as much as you can. The jobs you enjoy are those that let you burn off your considerable excess energy. (oo nga....napansin ko yun) How do you view success: You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don't succeed. Don't give up when you haven't yet even started! Be courageous. (hindi totoo to....eto ata yung question na sinagot ko bear...hehehe) What are you most afraid of: You are afraid of having no one to rely on in times of trouble. You don't ever want to be unable to take care of yourself. Independence is important to you. (hmmmm...di ko gets...i solve problems by myself as much as i can) Who is your true self: You like privacy very much because you enjoy spending time with your own thoughts. You like to disappear when you cannot find solutions to your own problems, but you would feel better if you learned to share your thoughts with a person you trust. (True that i love my privacy....the others e di ako agree...the last part I agree...my friends now this)
I studied for 6 years and worked for another 6...this December will be my last month under Mapua.
I studied Electronics and Communications Engineer for 6 years...6 kasi I need to work din kaya I have to unload myself..hindi naman ako nagmamadali pero hindi naman ako naging palamunin sa bahay...the last 3 sems (yup semestral pa nun) of my 6 years, I paid my own tuition fees and have my own allowance...mala destiny's child (independent) hehehe
I am a working student before, worked as a Research Assistant for DoIT Mapua...when I graduated they absorbed me as Reserch Associate also with DoIT. My work is more on marketing materials and web....then they build a new school (MITc) and hired (hiniram) me as their "artist" for their marketing collaterals...Michelle Casio liked the way I worked so she get me (pirated) from DoIT and became a Creative Head and part-time faculty for MITc.
So MITc na ko...roller coaster ride...met a lot of friends and Ms Crisel Valenzuela, my fiance and student before hehehe....ayun
I have no problems inside MITc since I can do whatever I want as long as I finished my school duties...roller coaster ride...nag iba iba ng head....may babaeng kalbo, may babang tinubuan ng mukha...mga matrona at mga KJ...but im still here...most of my co-workers are already abroad but i'm still here....yadayadayada blahblablah...and to cut the story short i was again pirated by another company (a client as a freelance designer) as a senior toooot...and will start work there this January....exciting...something new...and looking forward to it...
Bye Mapua =( chos

Layo pera! Layo!

SALARY 10% goes to ATM Savings Account 20% goes to Passbook-only Savings Account, but if you don’t have a Passbook Account try to get another ATM account (it’s easier) but do not put that ATM to your wallet. 70% divide into expenses. Take out expense budget for the next three days and deposit the rest into your ATM account.
SAVING MONEY: - Try not to withdraw from your ATM. No money in your wallet usually means less spending. - As much as possible try to eat at home...pero di ko ginagawa - Don’t buy drinks in restaurants; drink the house water...or bring a tumbler - Don't put a lot of money inside your wallet. just bring enough like 2k.
EARN MONEY: - Sell stuffs that you dont need no matter how trivial it is like old magazines, books etc - Learn a craft or two and earn from it....like Flash hehe
SPENDING MONEY: - If you can't afford it now, don't buy it. - Compare prices. - Try generic branded items like SM Best Buy or ShopWise brands. - Large quantities are always less expensive. - Buy quality clothes. yes, it's somewhat expensive but buying clothes and shoes that will last saves money in the long run. - Before any purchase, ask yourself if it is a want or a need - Don't be an emotional shopper - When it comes to clothes or shoes, stick with classic styles. Don't invest too much on trendy apparel that would easily go out of style. - Consider buying pre-owned goods/items
salary - savings = expenses, not: salary - expenses = savings
Live below your means
Live healthy, it will save you a lot on hospital bills in the long run.
I have this scheduling for my expenses...
Every 15th day Salary - 4500 goes to my allowance - 1500 for my phone bills - Savings...secret (e di nalaman nyo nakukuha ko)
Every 30th day Salary - 4500 for my allowance - 2000 my share for our rent and home expenses - Secret ang Savings
Pansin nyo wala akong credit card...masama yun e...for emergency? may ATM naman diba...may kaskasan ba ng card sa Taxi? wala naman diba...e sa carinderia? wala din...Hospital? may ATM dun, magsara ang wala...tangina (di talaga pwedeng walang mura no hehehe)
